What do you believe about how you came to be? What you believe about your creation/your birth, your existence, addresses every single aspect of your life; your thoughts, your feelings, your words, your life choices, your behaviors, your reactions, your contentment or lack of, your pain, your acceptance, your fears, your anguish, your peace.
Before we go any further, let us be clear; You have value and you have meaning!
We know the science of procreation. Alongside of that, in physics, the law of conservation of matter and energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another.
So, in discussing your existence, and my existence, how did the very first person come into existence?
If you believe in evolution, and believe we evolved from monkeys, scientifically, any mutation or evolution of bacteria or parts of animals, never turn into anything new; for example, bacteria remains bacteria and fruit flies remain fruit flies.
Furthermore, study of fossil records support instant creation. Gaining knowledge of the human cell through molecular biology has completely destroyed the concept of evolution. A common genetic code could prove a common ancestor however the common genetic code does not exist on the molecular level and 85 to 95% of apes DNA matches humans and 90% of mice DNA matches humans as well. At a molecular level there is no trace of evolutionary transition from fish to amphibian to reptile to mammal.
Even though the evidence points to a single Creator, if you would like to believe that humans evolved from monkeys or apes, then we are just accidental byproducts of nature. That would mean that we were not intentionally designed which means there is no purpose for us being here.
Evolution also implies survival of the fittest, not morality. If we use social convention for morality then it is the popular opinion of the time that becomes “moral” or “immoral” and that makes nothing right, and nothing wrong. That is one of the ways we can explain the atrocities we see people doing around us. Everyone is doing what is right in their own sight. And ultimately then, it does not matter how you live your life, your day to day choices are meaningless, and therefore, you are, and I am meaningless.
But, that is NOT truth. We do have value and we do have meaning!
So, even if we want to say we evolved from something else, how did the very first one appear? That still points to a Creator.
Let’s talk about said Creator, and you! You are seen! You are known! You are loved! All by the One who created you! Yes, your mother was a vessel chosen to birth you. Yes, your mother and your father were vessels chosen to procreate to form you. However down at the very root of it all, GOD designed you!
“My essence was not hidden from You [God], when I was made in secret, I was formed in the lowest parts of the earth. Your [God] eyes saw my unformed body, and on Your [God] book they were all written; days have been formed and one of them is His [God].” Psalm 139:15-16
God says “I have known you by name and you have also found favor in My eyes.” Exodus 33:12
“For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, with much kindness to all who call You.” Psalm 86:5
“You are a God of forgivenesses, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, with much loving-kindness…” Nehemiah 9:17
The Lord your God is in your midst-a Mighty One Who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will be silent in His love. He will jubilate over you with song.” Zephaniah 3:17
And now, so said the Lord, your Creator, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you, and I called by your name, you are Mine. When you pass through water, I am with you, and in rivers, they shall not overflow you; when you go amidst fire, you shall not be burnt, neither shall a flame burn amongst you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Since you are dear in My eyes, you were honored and I loved you. Fear not for I am with you; from the east I will bring your seed, and from the west I will gather you. Everyone that is called by My name, and whom I created for My glory, I formed him, yea I made him. Isaiah 43:1-7
“When I [God] had not yet formed you in the womb, I [God] knew you, and when you had not yet emerged from the womb, I [God] had appointed you; a prophet to the nations I [God] made you.” Jeremiah 1:5
This is critical in attending to your concept of self for what we believe affects every area of our world and existence. And as with most things in life, there is a larger context to it. So what makes this meaningful will only really make sense within that backstory, and because of it all, everything will be very different. Let us take a look now at the big picture. And yes, the big picture is quite big. And exciting. And incredible!
